Day 1
The Hermitage & Glencoe
Begin your Scottish road trip by collecting your car from our HQ in Perth, we will spend time taking you through the car and your itinerary, and answer any questions you have regarding your trip.
Your first day will be spent driving north exploring some of Perthshire’s beautiful towns. You will then be heading towards Glencoe, with a detour to Glen Etive famously known as the Skyfall Glen.

- Walks/Hikes – The Hermitage, Falls of Dochart, The Lost Valley

Day 2
Glencoe to Skye
This day takes you along the Road to the Isles, towards Mallaig, where you will be boarding the ferry to Skye. While waiting for the ferry you can explore the nearby beaches of Silver Sands or Camusdarrach. Once you reach Skye, head towards the iconic Fairy Pools.

- Glenfinnan Viaduct (Harry Potter Bridge)

- Walks/Hike – Fairy Pools & Coire na Creiche

Day 3
Explore the Isle of Skye
Spend the day exploring the Isle of Skye, which is small but packed with highlights. A visit to Portree, the main town, offers a charming harbour and great fish and chips.

- Visit Dun Beag Broch to learn about the island’s early history
- Walks/Hikes – the Quiraing, Old Man of Storr, Neist Point
- Dunvegan Castle & Gardens

Day 4
Skye to Applecross
Time to leave the Isle of Skye and soak up some of the West Coast. Leave via the Skye Bridge and stop at Eilean Donan Castle, then you will be taking the famous Bealach na Ba pass into Applecross (weather permitting).
Optional activities:
- Detour to Plockton (the jewel of the Highlands)
- Enjoy Paddleboarding or Sea Kayaking in the sheltered waters
- Walks/Hikes – Sheldaig Peninsula

Day 5
Applecross to Lochinver
Continuing along the beautiful West Coast, head towards Ullapool. You can break the drive up by exploring the Beinn Eighe Nature Reserve, taking a boat tour from Gairloch or spending a few hours at one of the beaches. Once you reach Ullapool, there are some great food options before heading on to Lochinver.

- Walks/Hikes – Victoria Falls, Corrieshalloch Gorge Suspension Bridge, Stac Pollaidh
- Beaches at Gairloch & Big Sands
- Boat Trip to the Summer Isles – these Isles have a fascinating history and if you’re lucky you might see a whale!

Day 6
Lochinver to Thurso
Today you will continue north towards Durness, it’s a beautiful drive with lots of viewpoints. Once you reach Durness, make a stop at Smoo Cave, an impressive limestone sea cave featuring a waterfall. Then it’s along the North Coast to Thurso, where you’ll stop for your penultimate night.

- Walks/Hikes – Glencanisp Circuit, Achmelvich Beach
- Fishing at Thurso (this can be arranged via the Ulbster Arms Hotel)
- Surfing at Thurso – a world-renowned cold water surf spot

Day 7
Thurso to Inverness
Before heading South, head to the most northerly town – John O’ Groats, you can also try for a glimpse of a puffin at Duncansby Head. Once you’re back on the NC500 there are two castles of note – Sinclair Gringoe (the ruined one) and Dunrobin (the Fairytale one).
