Day 1

Glencoe (30th December)

From Perth take the A9 North to Dunkeld, where you can visit the Cathedral. Just a wee drive further North, you can enjoy a walk at the Hermitage, known for its stunning waterfall. Continue to Aberfeldy, stopping by the award winning chocolatier in Grandtully along the way. In Aberfeldy there is the potential for a distillery tour at Dewars World of Whisky or a tasting in the bar.

From Aberfeldy, continue your journey to Killin, a great stop to visit the Falls of Dochart and potentially grab a bite at the pub – we recommend the Smokery behind the pub for a delicious lunch. Afterwards, make your way towards Glencoe. As you drive, take in the breathtaking scenery, and if you’re lucky, you might catch sight of the resident deer at the Kingshouse hotel, nestled beneath the mighty Buachaille Etive Mor.

Soon, the awe inspiring beauty of Glencoe unfolds before you. Take a moment to stop for pictures or enjoy a gentle stroll down into the Glen. At its foot, you’ll find the historic Clachaig Inn, whose back bar featured as a filming location in the Harry Potter movies – a perfect spot to pause and create your own little bit of magic. Finally, for your first nights stay, you’ll rest in the charming village of Ballachuilish, famous for its slate and a village name that’s tricky to pronounce.

Optional Activities

Day 2 & 3

Hogmanay (31st December & 1st January)

The last day of the year should start as you mean the new year to go on – full of excitement and wonder. From your hotel, head to Fort William and down Glen Nevis for a walk to Steall Falls. The second highest waterfall in the UK and one of the best walks in the UK.

Afterwards, drive up the Great Glen – an ancient geological fault line that cuts Scotland in two. Along the way, you’ll reach the legendary Loch Ness, where, if you’re lucky, Nessie herself might appear to wish you a happy New Year. Continue north towards Inverness and your hotel for the next two nights, as you’ll want time to get ready for the night’s festivities. With its vibrant atmosphere and abundance of cool pubs and restaurants, Inverness offers plenty of ways to celebrate. Alternatively, you might want to take full advantage of the package that your hotel is putting on.

The following day, 1st of January, is all about relaxing into the New Year at a slower pace. Perhaps take a peaceful stroll along the River Ness and enjoy the serenity of the water. If you fancied a short drive, head up to Rogie Falls for a more adventurous walk. Clava Cairns an ancient burial site 1000s of years old is also an option for today.

Optional Activities

  • New Year Boat Tour on Loch Ness
  • Glen Nevis Ski centre
  • Clava Cairns & Culloden Memorial

There’s a herd of reindeer that walk the hills here so keep your eyes peeled. If you’d rather take a walk through some of Scotland’s last remaining arboreal rainforest, head for the Green Loch near Glenmore.

As you traverse your way through the National Park, you’ll pass The House of Bruar, where you could stop in for some refreshments and a walk to the nearby falls. From here it’s only a short drive down to the Victorian village of Pitlochry and your final nights stay at a beautiful luxury hotel. Settle in for some fine hospitality.
