This Scottish Borders self-drive itinerary begins and ends in Perth, forming a relaxed loop through the Lowlands and Borders regions. The journey starts by heading south past Edinburgh to the East Lothian coast, taking in North Berwick, Yellowcraig Beach and the seaside town of Dunbar.

From Dunbar, the route turns inland through rolling countryside and picturesque villages to Kelso and Melrose, where river walks, historic abbeys and green spaces define the landscape. The journey continues through the Yarrow Valley and alongside St Mary’s Loch, before reaching Dumfries, a region rich in literary history and rural charm.

The return leg heads north via Peebles and Innerleithen, offering opportunities for forest walks, cycling and riverside strolls, before looping back to Perth to complete the journey.
