Route Overview

This Scotland TV and film self-drive itinerary begins and ends in Perth, forming a varied loop through historic towns, dramatic Highland landscapes and world-famous filming locations. Designed for adventurous families and first-time visitors, the route combines iconic screen sites with scenic driving and time to explore at a relaxed pace.

Leaving Perth, the journey heads south-west to Doune and Stirling, where castles and historic landmarks set the tone for the adventure. From here, the route turns west to Loch Lomond, offering lochside scenery, gentle walks and a peaceful overnight stop.

The journey then continues north into the Highlands, travelling through the dramatic landscapes of Glencoe and Glen Etive, before reaching Fort William. A short detour west leads to the iconic Glenfinnan Viaduct, instantly recognisable from the Harry Potter films and set against a stunning Highland backdrop.

From Fort William, the route turns north-east towards Loch Ness and Inverness, blending legendary scenery with key historic sites. Visits to Culloden Battlefield and Clava Cairns add depth and atmosphere, connecting film locations with real Scottish history. The final leg of the journey travels south through the open landscapes of the Cairngorms National Park, before returning to Perth to complete the loop.

Testimonials

We rented a defender with the camping package for a week from Nomadic to do a tour of the Scottish coast and had the most unforgettable experience! Was so easy to plan the route, activities and great food spots with the extremely helpful Alex and Sandy, and with everything you need to camp being included in the package there is no stress in getting organised for the trip!

Definitely going to use Nomadic again, and have already been recommending to friends and family. Thanks so much to the team!
