For this 7-night itinerary, we’ve suggested a hotel for each night if you are on our 4×4 vehicle hire only package, and a registered campsite if you’ve added the camping package. Starting in Perth, the route heads north through Highland Perthshire to Dunkeld, Aberfeldy and Glencoe, setting the tone with woodland walks, lochs and mountain scenery. From here, the journey pushes west to the coast, crossing to the Applecross Peninsula via the dramatic Bealach na Bà before following the rugged shoreline through Torridon and Gairloch.
The route continues north to Ullapool and over the iconic Kylesku Bridge, where the landscape becomes increasingly remote and wild. The northern coast reveals vast beaches and big skies around Durness, Balnakeil Bay and Smoo Cave, before turning east across the top of Scotland to John O’ Groats. The final days follow the gentler Moray Firth coastline past Dornoch and onto the Black Isle, before returning south to Perth via Inverness and House of Bruar.

The setup from Nomadic Scotland could not have been more perfect for what we were looking for!
As we were only going for 4 nights, it was the perfect way to see all of the places we wanted to see without a faff of trying to find hotels etc which are far and few between.
Not to mention how much of a fun adventure it was! To have the flexibility was ideal. The tent was so easy to setup, and they provided some brilliant instructions and tips which massively helped.
Not to mention the van had everything we needed, so all we had to do was a food shop and we were good to go. The defender was easy to drive and added a fun element of the trip.
We had the most incredible time, and have had so many people asking us about the trip. I couldn’t recommend Nomadic Scotland more!
