Day 1
Pitlochry & Dunkeld (23rd December)
Your first day will be spent driving North, exploring some of Perthshire’s beautiful towns – made even more magical at this time of year with the chance of snow covered pines lining the side of the road.
Your first stop will be the historic town of Dunkeld, where you can wrap up warm and enjoy a woodland walk along the River Braan at The Hermitage. Towering firs guide your path to the roaring Black Linn Falls and the enchanting Ossian’s Hall. After your walk, we recommend stopping at The Taybank, a riverside pub in Dunkeld known for its warm atmosphere, craft beers and local food. Its a great place to grab a quick bite before getting back on the road.
You will then head up the A9 towards Pitlochry. Where you will finish your day in a luxury hotel, nestled in the heart of Perthshire. Dine at the hotels restaurant with local venison, game or salmon before you curl up by the fire with a wee dram after a day of driving.
Optional Activities
- Pitlochry Dam & Fish Ladder
- Cold Plunge and Sauna at The Braan Sauna (£90)
Day 2
Xmas Eve in Glencoe
After a hearty breakfast, head into the snowy landscapes of the Highlands and take a 20-minute drive to the village of Grandtully to stop at the renowned The Highland Chocolatier by Iain Burnett. Indulge in a chocolate tasting experience, or browse their delightful gift shop. Don’t forget to pick up some signature truffles as a treat for later on!
Continue to Aberfeldy, famous for the Birks of Aberfeldy – a beautiful woodland walk immortalised by Robert Burns. Before reaching the town, we recommend visiting Dewar’s Whisky Distillery, home to Scotland’s world-famous single malt whisky. Here you can enjoy learning about the process of making whisky on one of their tours.
Continue your journey as you pass through the picture-perfect village of Kenmore. Once your past the village, enjoy a stunning 40-minute drive along Loch Tay. As the largest body of water in Perthshire, Loch Tay offers breathtaking views at every turn. At the Western end of the Loch lies Killin, a great stop to visit the Falls of Dochart. From here, make your way towards Glencoe, with a detour to Glen Etive, famously known as the ‘Skyfall Glen’. Once in Glencoe there’s a nice 2-3 hour walk into the Lost Valley. Just be mindful of daylight hours, proper footwear etc.
You will arrive at your hotel, tired but inspired after a day of beautiful scenery. Prepare yourself for a cosy and magical Christmas, complete with crackling fires, hearty feasts and stunning loch side views.
Optional Activities
- Whisky Distillery Tour
- Highland Chocolatier

Day 3
Glencoe & The Highlands (Xmas Day)
Christmas Day will be spent in one of the most dramatic landscapes in Scotland.
After a full Scottish breakfast, perhaps accompanied by a glass of festive champagne, head out for a stroll. The winding trails surrounding Glencoe Lochan make for a peaceful and calming day out in the wilderness. You might chose to hop on the Chair Lift at Glencoe Mountain Resort – from the top you will get a great view of the Meall a’Bhuiridh Massif, and then you can chose to hike or ski down, or simply take in the views and head back in the gondola.
In the afternoon, return to your hotel for a traditional Christmas lunch and relax by the fire.
Optional Activities
- Skiing/Snowboarding/Sledging
- Local Highland Sightseeing
- Nature Spotting
Day 4
Loch Ness & Inverness
After two days of Christmas serenity in Glencoe, Boxing Day offers a glimpse of the legendary Loch Ness.
As you leave the glen behind, the road carries you north through steep-sided valleys and frost-kissed forests, where every bend reveals another sweep of wild Highland beauty. Soon the shores of Loch Ness open before you, long and mysterious, its dark waters mirroring the pale winter sky. Pause here to wander, breathe, and take in the hush of the season; even the loch feels slower at this time of year.
Continue onward toward Inverness, the Highland capital, where cosy cafés, festive lights, and riverside strolls offer a gentle contrast to the ruggedness of the day’s journey. It’s a peaceful place to settle for the night — a welcoming end to a route steeped in legend, winter magic, and the timeless allure of the Scottish North.
Finish your day by settling into a cosy hotel. Enjoy a relaxed evening with a festive dinner, reflecting on the memories made during a magical Christmas in Scotland’s winter wonderland.
Optional Activities
- Boat Tour on Loch Ness
- Guided Wildlife Tracking & Photography, Glencoe
- Urquhart Castle

Day 5
Return to Perth
Enjoy your final morning breakfasting in the Highlands before making your way back to us. There’s a chance to stop at House of Bruar, the “Harrods of the North” for some last minute Christmas purchases. They offer a wonderful blend of high-quality Scottish clothing, traditional crafts and gourmet food.
Consider a final stop at the Taste Perthshire, for a final chance to spot Highland Cows before heading back down the A9 to Nomadic HQ, where we can brew you a fresh cup of coffee before your transfer on to your next destination.
Optional Activities
- House of Bruar
- Nae Limits – Outdoor Activities
